Get to know Fabulous Hillcrest
With a span of over a dozen blocks along University Avenue, the neighborhood has staked its claim of diversity with the 65 foot tall Hillcrest Pride Flag at Pride Plaza on one end of the rainbow, and its famed and historic Hillcrest sign on the other. The monumental rainbow flag on the east end serves as a community gathering point for celebrations, rallies, special events and also serves as the starting point for the nation's third largest LGBT Pride parade. Pride Plaza also hosts the Hillcrest Farmers Market, known as San Diego's largest and best farmers market. The market features over 175 vendors every Sunday - rain or shine - from 9am until 2pm. On the west end, the Hillcrest sign marks the heart of the community, an area filled with quaint shops, restaurants and thrilling bars- said to be the area where "Sunday Funday" was born.
Just south of Hillcrest sits Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in North America and a hub for recreation, arts and culture, and community gatherings. The park is home to 16 museums and performing arts venues, ornate Spanish-Renaissance architecture, 1,200 acres of beautiful gardens and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
Kickoff Pride Weekend at the Stonewall Rally & Pride Cocktail Garden!

Join us on for the Stonewall Rally, a huge free gathering, hosted by San Diego Pride, to get Pride Weekend started. Empowering speeches, moving testimony, and a massive Pride flag raising! San Diego’s first rally was held in 1975. The Spirit of Stonewall Rally is a time to recognize and honor leaders who are working hard to preserve our gains and meet the many challenges still facing our community. It is a time for us to honor our origins, celebrate those who are leading the way, and call our community to action around some of our movement’s most pressing issues.
While the Pride Block Party is on hold this year due to construction on Normal Street, we’re excited to introduce a brand new way to celebrate with your community: the Pride Cocktail Garden.
This FREE outdoor experience will take place during and after the rally and offers a vibrant space to gather with friends, enjoy a cocktail, and toast to the start of Pride Weekend. The garden will feature:
Local vendors (including food & dessert)
A full cocktail bar
A comfortable area to watch the rally and connect with community
PRIDE RAFFLE!
